The Most Amazing Caramel Apple Harvest Cake

Caramel Apple Cake is the best fall dessert. Garden Fresh apples and caramel topping just go together so we turned it into a cake.

September is the month for apples. We go through so many apple desserts  testing new ones and making old favorites to be able to share with you the best of the best.

My favorite apple recipe was given to me by my mother-in-law and includes unlawful amounts of butter and sugar. Consider it THE best fall dessert! Carmel Apple Cake. Sadly, for my self esteem at least, I could probably eat the entire thing by myself. Pair it with the best fall harvest pizza and use all your garden goodies.

Although this caramel apple cake has apples in it it also has a Paula Dean amount of butter so it’s not like one of those apple sauce replacement cakes. It’s moist and flavorful and buttery and then you drizzle (or dump, don’t judge) warm caramel sauce on it. It’s lick the pan type of good.

I put my cake in the beautiful Harvest Loaf mold from Nordic Ware. I love this cake mold it’s just SO beautiful. There are so many different styles from Nordic Ware I want them all!

Note: when you have big chunks (like apples, raisins or chocolate chips) in your recipe you want to fill in the design with batter without the big bits first. Then add the apples or whatever you are adding to the rest of the batter and add to the pan. This way your design can come out without being disrupted.

Another tip is to coat your big bits with flour so they don’t sink to the bottom. Big bits… (It’s a thing people, and I didn’t know how else to explain:)

This seriously is the most delicious, decadent cake smothered in warm caramel sauce. OMYum.

This cake gets dark so don’t freak out that it’s burning. Just check the middle with a knife or toothpick when the timer goes off.

Caramel Apple Cake

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Cups Sliced apples
  • 1 1/2 Cups White Sugar
  • 2 Sticks Butter
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 Cups White Flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Cloves
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg fresh ground

Caramel Sauce

  • 1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Butter
  • 1/2 Cup White Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Heavy Cream
  • 1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract

Instructions
 

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350°
    2. Peel and slice the apples
    3. Add sugar to the apples
    4. Melt butter and add eggs, pour over apples. Let sit while you measure and sift dry ingredients
    5. Add dry ingredients to apple mixture and stir to combine.
    6. Place in well greased 9×13 pan and bake for 45 minutes

Sauce

  • Heat sugars and butter until bubbly. Add cream and stir in for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in butter.
    Serve over warm cake.
