How to Make Amazing Homemade Lotion with Just a Few Ingredients
I love making lotion. It’s so easy and this recipe that I’m sharing today is my favorite! You can make your own lotion at home with just a few natural ingredients in no time. Add some lavender essential oil and you will never go back to store bought lotion again.
Balancing Ingredients
I started making my own lotion years ago and when I found out how easy it was to make I started making it to sell locally. And people loved this recipe. I got so many compliments on the texture and the perfect way it soaking into the skin without leaving you greasy.
I’ve tried many different lotion recipes but this is the one I always come back to because it’s just the perfect balance of everything you want from a lotion.
Now, because it’s handmade lotion made from real ingredients you need to add a preservative and keep it in the fridge to make it last longer.
There are longer lasting oils and preservatives that you could buy but I like to keep things as natural as possible when making things that go in or on my body.
So let’s dive into this amazing recipe shall we.
Homemade Lotion Basics
The first thing you need to know about lotion is that it takes three main ingredients. Water, oil, and an emulsifier that allows you to mix the two because water and oil will not stay mixed without an emulsifier.
So use filtered water to make sure it’s the cleanest water available. Use the freshest oil and find a good emulsifier. Everything else is just ingredients to make your lotion more specific to your tastes.
Soak It In
I like a good creamy lotion that doesn’t make your hands greasy after your put it on. So I like to add a few ingredients that will provide that creamy texture.
Some of these ingredients are Jojoba oil, cocoa butter, an emulsifier and my secret ingredient for a homemade lotion that will make you skin so soft.
