How to Make a Lavender Wreath

Everyone should grow lavender somewhere in their garden. It is naturally deer resistant, pests don’t bother it, it’s drought tolerant and it is such a versatile plant. Today we will be showing you how to make your own lavender wreath from your own homegrown lavender. If you don’t have wheat or would like to substitute it with another plant like eucalyptus then that is great. Just make sure the plant you use is properly dried.

This lavender & Fall wheat wreath is so easy to make you only need four things to recreate this beautiful wreath.

It turned out beautiful and was made just in time for my pre-fall home decor.

All you need:

• 16 inch Grapevine wreath
• Thin wire about 22 gauge
• 8-10  1 inch bunches of lavender (fresh is best)
• 8-10  1 inch bunches of dried wheat (if you can find a nearby farm that will give you some wheat that is best. You can buy it online but it can get expensive)
• wire cutters
• scissors

Drying Plants

You can hang your plants in small bundles in a dark dry area or you can dry them individually in the microwave or in the dehydrator.

You can use any dried plant that you would like for this project. I have had great success with drying lavender, eucalyptus, rosemary, calendula, thyme, sage, heathers, and yarrow.

Process

Lay the wreath flat on the table.  Bundle your lavenders and wheat into separate little bundles secured together with wire or twine.

Lay the first bunch of lavender on the wreath and wrap the wire around the lavender and wreath and twist to make secure. Tighten your little pliers on the wire and twist the pliers so you can get it really tight. But not so tight that it snaps.

Wreaths get moved around a lot as you change decor through the seasons and the years. You want to make sure that your bundles are very secure and not at all wiggly.

Alternate between wheat and lavender bunches. The end bunch is a bit tricky. Once you get to the last bunch gently lift the first bunch you wired down and tuck the final bunch underneath then gently wire it to the wreath.

This wreath is beautiful year round. I loved doing this project and it only took 1/2 an hour of my time. So. Worth. It!
