Pea Fences
Pea Fence BasicsI love the look of cute little pea plants coming up out of the ground. Especially if they are accompanied by some woven or arched pea fences. Every spring, very early spring, I prune our fruit trees and I save the tall straight branches that grow each year.
With these branches I build my sweet little pea fences.Build your own!The woven and the arched pea fences together are complimentary to each other and draw the eye. I get so many comments on my pea fences I thought I’d show how easy they are to put togetherThe woven fence starts with the branches stuck into the ground and about 3-4 inch intervals.
Then take the longest branches and weave them through alternating back and forth between the standing branches. The arched branches are even more simple.Take your long bendy Apple branches and stick it as far into the ground as you can by hand. If you have soil like me then you probably have to moisten the soil a little bit before you can stick it as far down as you need.Arch the branch and stick the other end in the ground. You can design this any way you like. I switch it up every year. This year I did different heights all intertwined.
Sew your peas right along side each fence the tallest variety by the tallest fence. Now you have adorable little fences for your peas to climb up. These fences also work for holding up tall flowers and shorter bean varieties.
Which are your favorite garden peas? How do you keep them off the ground?
