This creamy, smooth lotion recipe is light and soothing to your skin. This lotion is super moisturizing and a top requested product that you can now make in your own home. You can make it any scent you prefer but the addition of essential oils like Lavender make this an even more amazing lotion.

Have you ever put on lotion and a minute later your hands felt sticky and maybe even drier than before? Sometimes lotion recipes include alcohol and additives which make the lotion gummy and drying. This recipe is so creamy and moisturizing

Essential Oils

Essential oils are derived from plants and they smell so good. You can make your own oils at home from things you grow in your garden. Of course we love to make lavender essential oils so that is what I use in this recipe most often but the second most requested essential oil lotion is Citrus.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Servings 36 Oz

Equipment

  • Microwave
  • Stick Blender
  • Candy Thermometer
  • 6- 6 oz Jars

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp Cocoa Butter
  • 1/4 cup Stearic Acid
  • 4 Cup Distilled Water
  • 1/2 cup Jojoba Oil or Sunflower Oil
  • 2 tsp Liquid Glycerin
  • 1 tsp Essential Oil
  • 1/2 Ounce Optiphen

Instructions

  • Mix Citric Acid, Cocoa Butter, Stearic Acid, Distilled Water, Jojoba Oil, and Glycerin in a microwavable bowl and heat for 5 minutes. Take the bowl out and stir with a wooden spoon. Replace in microwave in one minute increments until the ingredients look like melted butter.
Remove from microwave and stir using the stick blender for about 3 minutes. Test a little bit of the liquid between two fingers to see if it is gritty. It should be smooth like soft butter. If there are any gritty parts put back into the microwave for one minute until the grits melt into the mixture. stir again with the stick blender.
Take the temperature of the lotion. It needs to be below 175 degrees before you can add in the fragrance and Optiphen. Once it is cooled to 174 add Optiphen and Essential Oils. Mix again with stick blender and immediately add to desired containers. Let cool before you put the lids on. Store in a cool dark place like the fridge.

This recipe came about after trying batch after batch of different lotion recipes. After much trial and error we took the best of those recipes and combined the best ingredients from them to make this AMAZING recipe. This is my go to recipe now. I tweak it to make it thicker or thinner depending on what I need to package it in but other than that I don’t vary from its perfection.

I’m not going to say this lotion will change your life but, it’s possible that it really could change your life. It’s a fun easy project.
