Top Four Essential Oil Distillers

I am in search of the best home-use essential oil distiller. Now that may sound like an unnecessary expense in this day and age; why distil your own herbs when you can buy essential oils everywhere? But here are my reasonings: 1. If I make it myself then I know what’s in it, 2. I love a new project, 3. I grow my plants so that I can use them and 4.have you seen the prices of some EOs? They are getting ridiculous. Now, I know that buying a distiller can be pricey. But there are some out there that cost less than a 15ml bottle of Essential Oil and that in itself is worth it to me. I like a good home project.

There are many a YouTube video on how to make your own essential oil distiller. But, unless you have all the separate parts already by the time you purchase all the necessary tools and equipment you’ve spent almost as much as it would cost to buy a fairly nice one online. And then you have to assemble all your parts and that takes time. So from a serious DIY-er and one who wants to save you time and money just find a nice low-cost one online. But if you are set on building one yourself then here* is a good tutorial. They even have this* essential oil distiller that works in your microwave that you can use for small amounts of oil. So fun!

So after lots investigating I’ve come up with the top four distillers that I would choose from.

I like the copper ones the best for several reasons. It is the most readily available because of its metal properties and the chemical reactions that happen when making alcohol, which distillers are mostly sold for. I also like copper ones because they are metal, the glass distillers are just as expensive but so much more breakable that I would hate to spend so much money on something only to see is smashed in seconds. I can’t handle the pressure! Also, Copper is just so pretty and I’m all about making life beautiful (on a budget of course).

I’m excited to get one of these babies and try it out this summer. I’ll let you know which one I chose and why and of course how it works for us.

Do you have a favorite distiller? Would you like to try making your own EOs? Which oils would you distil? ( I’m planning on trying some of our lavender and some of our lime basil which smells amazing in our garden, but I want to bathe in it too!)
